The Pittsburgh Pirates is a baseball team that has been an active franchise in the MLB since 1881. They have played in PNC Park since 2001, and formerly in Three Rivers Stadium, Forbes Field, Exposition Park, and Recreation Park.

Throughout the course of their history, the Pirates has won five World Series championships, the most recent being in 1979, when they defeated the Baltimore Orioles in seven games, with Willie Stargell being named the MVP at thirty-nine years old.

A total of forty-three players that have played for the Buccos have been inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, in Cooperstown, including: Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner, Ralph Kiner, Pie Traynor, Lloyd Waner, Paul Waner, Arky Vaughan, Bill Mazeroski, Barney Dreyfuss, Jack Beckley, and Stargell.

In 2014, the Pirates finished second in the National League Central with a record of 88-74. The pitching staff was carried by Edinson Volquez with 13 games won and a 3.04 era, Francisco Liriano with 175 strikeouts, and Mark Melancon with 33 saves. On offense, the Ps were powered by Josh Harrison with a .315 batting average, Andrew McCutchen with 25 home runs and 83 runs batted in, and Starling Marte with 30 stolen bases.

Key additions to Clint Hurdle's lineup made in the 2014/2015 offseason include A.J. Burnett and Corey Hart.
