The New York Mets is a baseball team that has been an active franchise in the MLB since 1962. They have played in Citi Field since 2009, and formerly in Shea Stadium, and the Polo Grounds.

Throughout the course of their history, the Miracle Mets has won two World Series championships, the most recent being in 1986, when they defeated the Boston Red Sox in seven games, with Ray Knight being named the MVP.

A total of fifteen players that have played for the Metropolitans have been inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, in Cooperstown, but only pitcher Tom Seaver dons the M on his plaque.

In 2014, the N.Y. Mets finished second place in the National League East with a record of 79-83. The pitching staff was carried by Eric Young Jr. with 15 games won, Jonathon Niese with a 3.40 era, Zack Wheeler with 187 strikeouts, and Jenrry Mejia with 28 saves. On offense, the team was powered by Daniel Murphy with a .289 batting average, Lucas Duda with 30 home runs and 92 runs batted in, plus Eric Young Jr. with 30 stolen bases.

Key additions to Terry Collins' lineup made in the 2014/2015 offseason include outfielder Michael Cuddyer.
