Stream Album ‘Amok’ from Thom Yorke’s Side Project Atoms For Peace. Radiohead to Work on New Album in Summer.
We’ve been hearing about the debut Atoms for Peace album for quite some time and, yesterday, it has finally come to see the light of day!
Atoms for Peace is an experimental alternative rock supergroup of sorts that just kind of fell into place. The band features Thom Yorke from Radiohead behind the mic and on guitar/piano, the long-time Radiohead producer/collaborator Nigel Godrich on guitar, keys and synth, as well as the every-lively Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, drummer Joey Waronket of Beck and R.E.M. fame, and Mauro Refosco with additional percussion and programming.
The band originally came together with the intention of backing Yorke as he toured in support of his debut solo album, The Eraser, in 2009. Of course, with such a group of muscians together, they slowly but surely began writing music of their own. The result: Amok, which can be streamed in full below:
Amok is exactly what you’d expect from Thom Yorke. It sounds like the more electronic and experimental albums Radiohead has put out (think Amnesiac mixed with Yorke’s solo album The Eraser). Yorke‘s signature whining vocals sit atop the choppy guitars, coming-and-going synths, and robotic percussion. NPR describes the sound best when they wrote: “Yorke lays his weary-but-soaring vocals over an assortment of sounds that whir, clatter, click, twitch and sprawl.”
Amok is due out February 26th. Yorke and Godrich have hinted at a U.S. Tour in support of the album, so be sure to sign up for Atoms for Peace Gig Alerts to be the first to find out when they announce tour dates in your area.
Official Amok tracklisting:
- “Before Your Very Eyes…”
- “Stuck Together Pieces”
- “Judge, Jury and Executioner”
- “Reverse Running”
In Radiohead news, guitarist Colin Greenwood recently stated the band plans to reconviene towards the end of summer to begin hashing out a follow up to 2011’s King of Limbs. He told BBC Music:
“We’re taking some time out whilst people are doing some other stuff, doing their own things, and the plan is to get back together again [at the] end of the summer.”
Radiohead has currently been on a break since touring extensively in support of King of Limbs.
