Alternative rock band Death Cab for Cutie is hitting the road for their 2015 tour. The group, which formed in Bellingham, WA back in 1997, is touring to promote their new album, “Kintsugi.” Currently, Death Cab for Cutie is signed to Atlantic Records and their album “Kintsugi” will be released in March, 2015. The first single from the album, “Black Sun,” was previously released on January 26, 2015 (watch video below).
Death Cab for Cutie is made up of Ben Gibbard, Jason McGerr and Nick Harmer. Former member and producer, Chris Walla, is featured on the new album, however, it is his last with the group. This album follows seven others, the last being “Codes and Keys” from 2011. The group has also released a number of EPs, one live album and a demo.
Fans often describe Death Cab for Cutie as an emo or indie pop group, and they are best known for their unusual use of unique instrumentation. The band is also known for the distinctive voice of lead singer, Ben Gibbard and their inimitable lyrics. The group is often compared to bands like Modest Mouse, The Decemberists and Band of Horses.
Though the band has been around the music scene for almost two decades, they didn’t really come into critical fame until they released their fourth album, “Transatlanticism,” in 2003. This album made it into the top 100 of the Billboard 200, and paved the way for their next albums, “Plans,” “Narrow Stairs” and “Codes and Keys.” These albums made it to 4, 1 and 3 on the Billboard 200.
As the group prepares to take the stage on their upcoming tour, fans are sure to hear a mix of new songs off of their new album as well as old favorites such as “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” and “You Are A Tourist.” The tour kicks off in April and will run through October. Joining the group for select shows are The Antlers, TUnE-YArDs, Built To Spill and Explosions In The Sky. In addition to several shows on American soil, Death Cab for Cutie will also be taking on the European festival circuit with shows in Berlin, London, Paris and Oslo, among others.
