Ms. Lauryn Hill has made quite a name for herself because of her talents as a songwriter, producer and singer. As a young girl, she grew up in South Orange, New Jersey and quickly got her start as an actress for both television and the big screen. By the time she was attending high school, she started performing as the Fugees with band mates Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean. By 1996, the trio had released two albums, one of which, named The Score won a Grammy. The band split up in 1997 after Hill and Wyclef Jean ended their romance.
In 1998, Lauryn released her only solo album, which showcased her unique style that mixes Caribbean and African-American influences. This album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, earned her 10 Grammy nominations in 1999. As a producer, Hill has also had her share of successes. She as written songs for music icons such as Mary J. Blige and Aretha Franklin. Since 2000, Lauryn has worked with John Legend and performed sporadically around the country.
