Aretha Franklin

soul, female vocalists, jazz I'm a fan

Aretha Franklin has been around for a long time. She is the official Queen of Soul although her roots are planted in gospel music. A lot of people have tried to duplicate her style because she is so powerful. People that go to the Essence Music Festival can see Aretha's influence in the styles of many new and established artists. Many female artists that go on tour will make a public declaration about the influence that Aretha has had on their careers. They may even sing a song from Ms. Franklin's catalog to show their R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Aretha was known for concert performances with live bands and great backup singers. She really knew how to get a crowd going in her early days. She built a name for herself in the early 60s that continued influence others for many decades to come. Franklin has been inducted into the Rocking Roll Hall of Fame. She has done crossover hits with people like George Michael and Keith Richards. She has even been introduced to a younger crowd through music video outlets and duets with artists like Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill. She has recorded hit songs that were written by Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, and many other famous song writers
